I am not an archaeologist in the traditional sense—I do not excavate ruins or uncover ancient objects. But I have come to realise that I do something similar: I excavate meaning.
I look at artworks the way an archaeologist looks at ruins, searching beneath the surface for layers of intention, structure, and quiet tension. What appears simple is often constructed. What feels effortless is often controlled.
Perhaps this is what I am: an archaeologist of meaning—someone who digs, questions, and reconstructs what lies beneath what we see.
